Dunkly
Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 10, 2026
Dunkly is a basketball training and performance app. This Privacy Policy explains what information Dunkly collects, how it is collected, how it is used, whether it is shared with third parties (including third-party AI), and what choices you have.
Dunkly is rated 9+.
1. Summary
- Most of your Dunkly data is stored only on your device. Dunkly does not operate a central user database for routine in-app data such as training logs, nutrition logs, match data, game analysis history, onboarding answers, or similar.
- If you use AI-powered features (food photo analysis or game video analysis), Dunkly sends selected content to Google LLC (Google Cloud Vertex AI, Gemini models) over the internet. Those features are optional; if you do not use them, that content is not sent to Google for AI processing.
- We do not sell your personal information.
2. What information Dunkly stores and where
2.1 Local storage (on your device)
Depending on how you use the app, Dunkly may store on your device, among other things: profile details, training activity, match information, drill progress, nutrition entries, app preferences, reminder settings, onboarding responses, and analysis results. This data is intended to remain on your iPhone or iPad unless you use a feature that explicitly sends data to a third party as described below.
2.2 How we collect it
We collect this information when you enter it in the app, when you use features that record or generate it (for example drills, logging a match, or saving a nutrition entry), and when the app saves analysis outputs after you run an AI feature.
3. Third-party AI: Google (Vertex AI / Gemini)
3.1 Who receives the data
For certain AI features, Dunkly transmits data to Google LLC using Google Cloud Vertex AI and Gemini family models. Google processes this data under its own terms and policies as the provider of the AI service. Dunkly does not use a different unnamed “AI provider” for these features—processing is performed by Google’s cloud AI services.
3.2 What data is sent and why
We only send data to Google when you actively use a feature that requires AI processing. The categories are:
- Food photo analysis (nutrition): When you choose to analyze a food photo, Dunkly may send a resized image of that photo (for example as a compressed image) and text prompts to Google so Gemini can return estimated calories, macronutrients, and related nutrition information.
- Game analysis: When you choose to analyze game footage, Dunkly may extract still images (frames) from your video, send those images (for example as compressed images), optional text you provide about the player (such as position or jersey number), and prompts to Google so Gemini can generate basketball performance insights and reports.
Processing happens over the internet. Google’s servers may be located in regions determined by Google’s infrastructure and your project settings.
3.3 What we do not send to Google for AI
We do not upload your entire photo library or all video on your device by default. We do not send your complete training history, drill history, match history, or profile as a bulk export to Google solely because you use other parts of the app. Routine use of Dunkly that does not involve the AI features above does not send that data to Google for AI processing.
If you do not use the food or game AI features, you can avoid sending the categories of content described in section 3.2 to Google for those purposes.
3.4 Your choices
You can decline the in-app consent for AI features. If you do not consent, features that require sending content to Google for this processing should not be available in the same way. You can also stop using those features at any time.
4. What we do not do
We do not maintain a central Dunkly database containing your personal in-app data as described for local storage in section 2.
We do not sell your personal information.
Except for the Google AI processing described above when you use those features, we do not describe sending your routine Dunkly data to our own servers for storage in this policy; the app is designed around local storage for the data types listed in section 2.
5. Permissions
Dunkly may request access to device features such as photos, camera, and notifications so the app can let you upload content, capture images, analyze media, and send reminders. These permissions are controlled by your device settings, and you can change them at any time in iOS settings.
6. Data deletion and your control
You can delete your Dunkly data at any time inside the app by going to Profile and choosing Delete account. This removes your profile and local data stored by Dunkly on that device.
Because Dunkly stores most data locally, deleting the app or clearing local app data on your device may also remove your Dunkly data from that device.
Deletion on your device does not erase data that Google may have retained under Google’s own policies; Google’s retention and deletion practices are governed by Google’s terms and policies.
7. Children and age rating
Dunkly is rated 9+. If a younger user uses the app, a parent or guardian should review how the app works before AI-powered features such as game analysis or nutrition photo analysis are used, because those features send selected content to Google for processing.
8. Data security
Because Dunkly stores most information locally on your device, the security of that data also depends on your device security, such as your passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, operating system protections, and backup settings.
When data is sent to Google, the security of transmission and storage on Google’s side is subject to Google’s practices and your network environment.
9. Third-party privacy protections
Google processes data in accordance with Google’s privacy policy and terms. Where applicable law requires that third parties provide protections equivalent or comparable to the protections described in this policy, you should review Google’s documentation for how they handle data for Vertex AI and Gemini.
10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the text at this location.
